CRIATECH
11 | 16 de Out | 10h até 12h30 e 13h30 até 18h
Dia 11- horário 13.30 – 18.00
Dias 12 a 14: horário 10.00 – 12.30 / 13.30 – 18.00
Dias 15 e 16: horário 10.00 – 12.30 / 13.30 – 18.00 / 20.00 – 24.00
The 5th edition of Criatech, in 2021, will take place in a week in which it will once again intervenes in public and heritage spaces, with a historical narrative and strong collective memory, which will be transformed by the presence of artistic objects that will be placed there in an ephemeraly.
At a time when the meaning of life is exchanged for sensations that generate emptiness, Criatech intends to be a moment to exhale and return to physical experience, albeit with a strong digital and media art presence, in a call to reverse the leaning to isolation and virtualization.
We persist in the survey of man-machine relationships, numerical algorithm and artificial intelligence and with this edition we intend to repair, aware that the states of some balances and the constant efforts to maintain these balances in the social and personal relationships of humanity have degenerated and what surrounds it – natural or artificial. We will reflect on physical and emotional contact, on relearning processes of being with the other and abroad, on impacts on nature, due to the absence of interaction between people.
Between Human Nature
Artista / Coletivo: Mecha Studio Local: Edifício da Capitania
Data: 14-16 de outubro
Horário: dias 14 a 16 - 10h00–12h30 / 13h30–18h / 20h00–24h00
This piece is an invitation to the public to participate in an exercise in creative reflection on the relationship between human beings and nature. An interactive audiovisual installation is presented, developed as an active dialogue, between transdisciplinary contributions from the studio team, and the audience itself, which is invited to interact and transform the audiovisual result.
The process starts with the capture of original video — an exercise in observing the natural world, which is so often overlooked in the urban frenzy. From these images, processes of generative visual distortion are produced, which enable a disruptive and decontextualized look, promoting new perspectives born from the intersection between the organic and the digital world. The result is reproduced in an immersive audiovisual installation, which highlights an overlap between the aesthetics of technology and technique, and the natural world it presents.
Finally, the installation delivers to the audience the continuation of this exercise — the movement of the body, captured by 3D sensors, transforms the visual elements presented in real time. A new frame of reference is created, seeking to promote the restless and divergent exploration of new meanings for the coexistence between humanity and the universe that encompasses us.
Holywell
Artista / Coletivo: Maotik (Fr) Local: Igreja das Carmelitas
Data: 11-16 de outubro
Horário: dias 11 a 13 - 10h00–12h30 / 13h30–18h00 / dias 14 a 16 - 10h00–12h30 / 13h30–18h / 20h00–24h00
Holywell is a multi-sensory experience that explores the nature and mathematical principles of sacred geometry. The work consist in the development of algorithms to create many forms observed in nature and their relation to religious patterns. The use of digital technology offers the possibility of reproducing various combinations making graphics evolve in the form of controlled randomness that creates complex patterns that fully embraces the architecture of the church.
The interactive will give a sense of direct contact with the divine of the church as their movement will modify the visual content projected on the ceiling and the floor and will change the perspective of the environment. As dome projection, the light projected on the cupula of the church will play with its architecture and change the perception of it.
The sound of the installation will follow the theory of Pythagoras that explained that patterns in nature are like the harmonies of music as arising from numbers.

From object to affect: proposals for future archives after the media
Artista / Coletivo: Patrícia J. Reis e Carla Cabanas
Local: Museu de Aveiro/ Santa Joana,
Data: 11-16 de outubro
Horário: dias 11 a 13 - 10h00–12h30 / 13h30–18h00 / dias 14 a 16 - 10h00–12h30 / 13h30–18h / 20h00–24h00
Sinopse: de objecto a afecto: propostas para futuros arquivos depois dos media
In the light of the current context of the big data in which data processing, data curation, storage, transfer, visualisation and privacy are major topics of discussion, artists Carla Cabanas and Patrícia J. Reis collaborate for the second time on an artist project that aims to reflect upon alternative ways of digital archiving, materialisation and/or dematerialisation of private objects. from object to affect: proposals for future archives after the media suggests that traditional modes of digital archiving will be obsolete and ineffective for a future realm — after the media. Rather than being concerned with preserving things as they are or look like, the artists take advantage from the mutability and fluidity of the digital media by acknowledging its time-continuous, transforming data into another data, ultimately experienced physically by the participant.
In the interactive installation, the participant is invited to place a personal object inside of a box, close the box, and take the key with her. Inside the box, an apparatus displays and video records the object in a 360ª continuously perspective. The video is connected to a computing system that translates the digital information of the pixels into vibration feedback. While caring the key, the participant is invited to experience the object through vibration feedback offered by a standing massage bed. The sensorial experience carries the data of the original object; the participant becomes the ultimate receptacle of the archive.
Luz e Espaço
Artista / Coletivo: Tiago Margaça
Local: Museu de Aveiro/ Santa Joana
Data: 11-16 de outubro
Horário: dias 11 a 13 - 10h00–12h30 / 13h30–18h00 / dias 14 a 16 - 10h00–12h30 / 13h30–18h / 20h00–24h00
This installation intends to bring the public closer to the work in order to reduce the space between the viewer and the work of art, thus creating a habit of consumption and cultural enjoyment. Installation is in itself a way of creating closeness to the spectator.
The light will focus and reveal the space to the protagonist's eyes, bringing him/her closer to the creative process and in practical terms the spectator when moving will be detected by sensors which will give them the ability to manipulate the light in various directions. The passage of light through various devices, such as prisms, lenses and mirrors will allow some control that create new light spacing, in the sense that this sensation and control of the effect provokes the spectator to experiment more until creating their own path.

Local: Antiga Estação da CP

What fashions the presence of the virtual characters? What makes them endearing to us? What becomes of our own presence, constantly extended by the surveillance devices that we are using? Swarming Lounge deals with the multi-layered affective and autopoïetic links, engendered by the stratification of the states of presence of mixed realities and questions our addictive relationship with the miniaturized worlds of screens. In this journey, the persistence of virtual presences haunts us, like an unsolvable enigma.

PRISMA
15 | 16 Out
The main theme of PRISMA 2021 is BALANCE. The pandemic showed us how fragile is human kind. How difficult it is to sacrifice and substitute ordinary things that we were used and how much we all struggle to find the inner balance of our lives.
PRISMA 2021 is not different and seeks our own BALANCE, hoping to create a smart and peaceful momentum. We are seeking BALANCE between spirituality and science, providing us another kind of hope into a brighter future. We are seeking BALANCE between the urban life and nature, between safe observation of unexpected beauty and shared pleasure of interactive gaming, something we all miss.
We are also seeking BALANCE between local and international artists, having in mind that Aveiro is bidding for European Capital of Culture in 2027 and everyone is included in it.
ANGELS OF FREEDOM
Angels of Freedom is a beautiful social and interactive light art installation that reveals the inner beauty of everyone by turning them visually into angels. A stark reminder that everybody counts, is amazing and in need of love and care. Angels of Freedom is a creation of OGE Group studio that was founded in 2007 by architects Merav (Salush) Eitan and Gaston Zahr and is based in Haifa (Israel).
These social sculptures reveal the inner beauty of each of us by turning you visually into angels. They animate the visitors to interact and to take photos and selfies with it and to be shared on social media. Giant colorful wings with a white halo invite the visitors to come close and turn into angels.
This artwork has travelled major light festivals around the globe.
AV FLOATER
RaumzeitPiraten on the next level. After their PRISMA 2020 successful appearance, for 2021 the location for this site-specific installation will be the water surface! One boat full of great lightning gadgets and various floaters will surprise the passerby.
BALANCING PEOPLE
Balancing People proposes a reflection on the state of balance and equilibrium experienced by humans amid their perpetual movement. It is a contemplative and symbolic work that invites people to stop and observe the balance of people projected. This work was never formally exhibited, only sections of it were projected informally and spontaneously in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the pandemic in August 2020.
BUBBLES
Physical fragility, softness, vulnerability, a game of shade and light. These are just some of the aspects of BUBBLES by Nina A. Šošková. This artwork balances between the statue and the architectural intervention, giving a new charm to the beautiful Art Nouveau building of Aveiro City Museum.
SPACE POLICE
Space and Auronautics: Conquest of the Mars, rockets, space creatures and police…mixed not stirred, as James Bond would say, with famous sci-fi movies music and a large portion of self-irony. This is the base for a lasermapping show that will bring together unexpected characters from different worlds. Of course the police force can’t be missed at this location.
GRAFFITIMAPPING
A new mural by the street artist SKRAN and a videomapping show on it during PRISMA 2021.
SECOND LITANY
An artistic installation of Slovakian artists Boris Vitazek and Zuzana Sabova that combines large scale paintings, videomapping and sound. This all creates a unique and very unconventional show that leaves no barriers between reality and illusion.
Second Litany features polygonal figures set in poses inspired by traditional Christian artworks. Worship rites and sacraments of organized religions and cults have been part of society from its beginnings. Nowadays people might find its counterparts in rave culture, which might seem like an unlikely place, but it might offer some form of reflecting and unwinding for people. Dancing fuses together with suffering and praying of ancient figures to the slow beat that gives the whole experience almost meditative quality.
SÃ LINE
Aveiro born artist and technical manager Dino da Costa created for Prisma 2021 a project that is inspired in his childhood memories of the salt fields, salt pyramids and light mirrors of the extraction of this precious element of our lives, one that needs a delicate balance between water, sun and wind to season the daily life of people.
ANIMALS
An interactive land-art installation highlighting the beauty of nature, more specifically the eyes of animals living both above the ground and in the water. Armenian photographer Suren Manvelyan created an impressive collection of high resolution photos of animal eyes and this material served to Czech innovator Ivo Opl as a base for creation of this interactive installation. Visitors can observe several devices showing the eyes of different animal species, like the Caiman, Chimpanze, Muflon, Raven, Zebrafish. As in real life animals are sensitive on distraction and will hide if you can’t be silent enough. Some are shyer some can switch into the offensive mode. But don’t worry, they don’t bite.
I WANT TO BELONG
Aveiro 2027 – Candidate City to European Capital of Culture meets the finish city Oulu, that holds the title of European Capital of Culture 2026. The core idea of this project is an eco-friendly participatory driven light installation consisting of one thousand origamis.
LASER LABYRINTH
Laser Labyrinth in an interactive installation allowing to visitors became a thief on a mission trying to escape to spider web of laser beams and bringing back the trophy in a record time. Laser Labyrinth is both and interactive game but also beautiful visual piece of art.
FLOWERS AND ANGELS
An archaic analogic device, that allows the projection of light through glass blades, creates powerful and creative images, changing our perception of a place. That is the proposal of this installation, made of drawings made to measure for this device and created specifically for PRISMA 2021.
SCHOOL OF VIDEOMAPPING
As in 2020, PRISMA promoted the School of Videomapping, a training action with the community guided by the Italian artist Luca Pulvirenti. This installation reveals the outcome of this initiative, as well as artworks by Pulvirenti and a piece entitled “Negro Mar”, created by Francisca Cardoso Lima, winner of the last edition School of Videomapping.
